The main focus of the research is on the constitutive modeling of geomaterials and the analysis of progressive and catastrophic destruction in soils with application to creeping terrestrial and tsunamigenic underwater landslides. His research interests include the application of new sensor technologies in geotechnical monitoring and the development of innovative chemical and biological methods for soil improvement. He has participated as an expert and consultant in large-scale geotechnical projects in the UK, USA, Russia, Mexico, Azerbaijan, Israel and Switzerland.
He is the co-founder of the subsidiary ETH Zurich Marmota Engineering AG.
